Duet

So, I'm working on covering a duet with one of my old friend's girlfriend. She's got a great voice and plays the piano very well. I've never done a duet before. I've actually never even really tried to harmonize before. I've also never tried singing an R&B song before. So what we gonna have, desert or disaster? (Song joke. Im funnys.)

But yeah, we'll see how it goes. I'm very excited. I mean, it's making music. Why wouldn't I be all over it?

A new one.

This isn't one of the songs I've been working on for a couple of weeks now, just something I came up with for a friend last night.

Lyrics:
Another bright and vivid day
Before the leaves turn dead and gray
Before the flowers fail to bloom
Every morning, in my room

I can feel as it awakes me
I can taste the air, it takes me
A gentle nudge in my direction
For my dreams, a misdirection

I'll walk on grassy ground
and The clouds will shift around
they let the sunlight bleed
what else could i ever need

I can feel as it awakes me
I can taste the air, it takes me
A gentle nudge in my direction
For my dreams, a misdirection

I'll sit among these flowers
Thick and thin through april showers
I hope this day will never fade
Me and this sunflower marmalade

SOTW

The Mars Volta - Ilyena

Stick with it past the weirdness intro if you're not into it...it picks up. A bit different from the other songs, but one of my favorites.

SONGOFTHEWEEK

Well, my sister is getting married tomorrow, so that coupled with work = no time for musics.

But I persist. Making progress on my song. Its getting better. Next week. Probably.

ANYWAY, this weeks song of the...week.redundant.is The Bird and the Bee - Ray Gun

It is delightful:
Youtube.
(No embed, I apologize.)

Anyway, enjoy it.

This weeks song and upcoming schedule.

Just kinda found out this song even had a video. The only Great Northern CD I've heard is the one this is off of, Remind Me Where the Light Is. It's a decent CD. This song, though, is simply mesmerizing. Please, enjoy yourself while listening to it.

Great Northern, New Tricks

Otherly:
I'm going to be posting a new video hopefully this week. I've either got to finish one of my new songs (I hate writing choruses) or I'll be doing a cover of Joey Eppard's Dead.

This new song I am really proud of. I tried to do something different lyrically and musically through the verse. Hopefully it's unique and I feel like it's helped me to hone in on how I write. Even if I have no idea what to do with the chorus.

Anyway, enough narcissism.

Song of the Week (?!)

So, in addition to posting updates to my various musical exploits, I'll be posting a song each week (roughly) sometime over the weekend that I'm currently enjoying.

So, the inaugural honor (fullofmyself) goes to...

The Wind.

Here's the song mentioned in the previous post.

To quote the YouTube video description:

This is a song I wrote vaguely about the book The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. It was such an enjoyable read, I decided to write a song about it. You should read it too.

MP3 of the song will be posted along with the video on my site:

Lyrics:
The Wind

These impossible tasks
Slip through slow, impossible grasps
No one could've asked for this
I'll call on resent for this

I think it may be her name
Because I'm losing my breath

Not even cold alleys could hold me now
I'll sprint across rooftops like a thousand leaves on the wind

Gratitude the only splendor
I'll think my way out this time
With only strings in hand,
Will I make it known

I think it may be her name
Because I'm losing my breath

Not even cold alleys could hold me now
I'll sprint across rooftops like a thousand leaves on the wind

I can spit every syllable
I could sling every word
But only one will ever
Direct these winds

I think it may be her name
Because I'm losing my breath

Not even cold alleys could hold me now
I'll sprint across rooftops like a thousand leaves on the wind

Music and me.

Well, I used to have a blog of my musical chroniclings before, but that was long forgotten. So I'm trying it again. Hopefully, I'll keep more up to date with this one.

What has my music gotten me so far? Not much. I've played a few open mic nights, and I'm not nervous at them or anything, but I'm trying to get most if not all original material to play. I live in cover-band-central, apparently, and when you open that Pandora box, that's the end for you. So, I'm slowly climbing that mountain.

I'm really hoping to work on getting actual quality recordings of my songs. I don't know where anything might lead from there, but I'm hopeful. The day job has certainly lost its luster.

So, the plan. I'm going to continue to do the songwriting, still post covers, and whatnot. But I'll be updating this at least more frequently. After this post should even be an upload of a brand new song I wrote mere days ago. I'll be updating on anything musically related that goes on in my life. I do have a recording of me live somewhere in my garage/tomb, but I don't have the means to transfer it to computer. Maybe one day. It certainly was a great time, and the host band's drummer/percussionist even played some bongos behind me on a few of my originals.

I'm also going to work on rerecording the videos I have on my YouTube account for better quality.

Anyway, this post is rambling. I had no direction when I started typing it and have even less now that it's over. I'm going to try and get things to pick up from here on out.

Here goes...

Cordially,
Kerry Parker
